24TH COMPASS AWARDS PRESENTATION 2019

Our 24th COMPASS Awards Presentation was held at Resorts World Sentosa Convention Centre on 15th of Sep 2019 and we were humbled to have National Arts Council Chairman, Ms Goh Swee Chen as our Guest-Of-Honour for the evening.

Jamiel Said and Phoebee Ong opened the show with "Ku Mahu 在乎" (Ku Mahu Zai Hu), a song written in both Chinese and Malay, embracing the different ethnic groups in Singapore. Jamiel first wrote the song in Malay with references to P.Ramlee and Teresa Teng. He later got Chinese lyricist Lim Weibin onboard, leading to the creation of "Ku Mahu 在乎". This song was also entered into SG:SW 2019, emerged as one of the Top 12 songs and eventually won the Xchange Award.

Top Local English Pop Song recipient, Lin Ying performed her winning song Eagle Eyes, electrifying the crowd. Alif Abdullah bagged his forth Top Local Malay Pop Song Award with his song "Tepi Sikit". This song won the same award in 2016. Top Local Soundtrack goes to Li Fei Hui with "小人物向前冲" (Xiao Ren Wu Xiang Qian Chong).

Young Songwriter of the Year Ffion Williams performed her latest release "Let U Down" and got the audiences grooving. Melissa Fitzgerald, daughter of Derrick Fitzgerald of The Thunderbirds, brought everyone back to the 60's with "My Lonely Heart". Derrick Fitzgerald is the recipient for the Artistic Excellence Award.

Meritorious Award recipient Nona Asiah had her son, Indra Ismail perform her mentor, Zubair Said's "Si Cempaka Biru" with artiste Hazrul Nizam. Louis Soliano, the other Meritorious Award recipient performed "Lucky Green" with the accompaniment of Jeremy Monteiro. Louis is also a NAC Cultural Medallion Recipient (2018) and COMPASS Artistic Excellence Recipient in 1997.

Wings of Excellence recipient Lee Wei Song roped in his students and performed a medley of his own hit songs. We have local trio Sufie Rashid, Ryan Sufiyan & Ryzall Noh to close the show with their highly energetic performance of medley "Maha Bisa Rahsia x Gila x Kisa Dua Muka"
