Malaysian-born Jack Teo graduated from the Nottingham Trent University with a Higher National Diploma in Quantity Survey. He subsequently completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration at the same university. Jack has a deep interest in sound engineering and music in general – he holds a Diploma in Audio Engineering from the reputable SAE Institute, is a certified Grade 8 piano player, and also plays the trumpet.
Jack enjoys a glittering career in the music publishing scene in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, spanning more than 20 years. Jack has accumulated massive wealth of experience through the years, having first forayed into the music publishing business by joining EMI Music Malaysia as a Copyright Administrator in 1998, later joining Universal Music Publishing Malaysia as a Publishing Manager in 2000, where he was later promoted to General Manager of Universal Music Publishing Malaysia and Singapore in Year 2008. Jack took up the additional role of General Manager for Universal Music Publishing Thailand in 2020.
Jack has been elected as one of the Publisher Directors of Music Authors’ Copyright Protection (MACP) Berhad, the performing rights society representing authors and composers in Malaysia, since 2001. In 2018, he has been appointed as Vice Chairman of MACP until present. Under his leadership, Universal Music Publishing Malaysia and Singapore had been awarded as Top Publisher (Overall) in Malaysia (awarded by MACP) for 5 consecutive years between 2015 to 2019; as well as Top Publisher (Overall) in Singapore for 10 consecutive years between 2010 to 2019.
Jack currently manages multiple established top-class songwriters in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand including Jeremy Monteiro, Dick Lee, Gentle Bones, Tat Tong, Amir Masoh, Jon Chua (The Sam Willows), MiCappella, Namewee, Ajai, Aman RA, Saari Amri, Samsons, Montoon Jira to name a few. He was also instrumental in signing and administering the entire catalogue of works written by the late Zubir Said, who has the National Anthem of Singapore as one of his many influential works.
Last but not least, Jack is well known in the music industry as a hardworking, diligent and passionate individual, who has dedicated his entire career in discovering, nurturing, and promoting local talents and music compositions from Southeast Asia to the world stage, and will undoubtedly continue to do so for many more years to come.
