As a copyright owner, you are entitled to royalties when your works are performed in public, for example at karaokes, pubs, concerts, or when it is broadcast over the radio, television (including cable) or even over the internet (see F.A.Q. for types of rights).
However, as an individual, it will be difficult and time consuming for you to personally track and collect royalties from these music users, especially when your works are being used overseas.
COMPASS is a body that represents the collective interests of songwriters and music publishers. Thus we are able to license music users and collect royalties from them more effectively and efficiently. Royalties collected will then be distributed based on the extent of your works being used.
Through reciprocal agreements with similar societies in other parts of the world, COMPASS Members will also be compensated for works performed in different countries.
Similarly, if you choose to assign your Reproduction Rights to COMPASS, you will also be able to benefit from the efficient royalty collection system of the Society.
Other than royalty collection, COMPASS also offers other services to its Members.
See Value Added Services for more details.
